To begin the game there are two hands dealt from the card shoe.  Up to 12 players can play at any table.  After the cards are dealt you will bet on the banker, player or for a tie.  The shoe typically is comprised of 6 to 8 decks of cards.  All face cards and ten cards have no value.  All cards less than 10 have their normal face value.  If you end up with cards over the total amount of ten the first number is dropped to form a single digit, such as sixteen becoming six.  Suits have no bearing on the winner.

Each player will receive two cards as will the banker.  Higher value cards are the winners. A third card can be drawn but only if the first two cards do not form a natural hand of 8 or 9.  When the players hand is less than or equal to 5 the player can draw a third card.  If the player does not draw a third card the bank’s hand must stand at 6 or more or to put it another way if they have less than 6 such as a 5 they must take a third card and when they third card is taken the bank must follow another set of rules.

Although many strategies are touted for baccarat there is no real way to beat the game consistently.  The best way to have a chance at success is to manage your money and play with discipline.
